Someone recently suggested I drop the beginner label from my bio. After all, I’ve spent decades creating, building, painting, sculpting, designing. By all accounts, I’m a practiced and seasoned artist.
But here’s the thing: I didn’t start calling myself an artist until recently. Not because I wasn’t one, I was born an artist. My life has been a resting place for works of art, but I’ve always embraced the beginner mindset.
Being a beginner is a double-edged sword. It comes with its challenges like self-doubt and skill gaps, but it also offers immense freedom, creativity, and the joy of discovery. It’s a place of openness, where growth feels infinite, and every moment offers the chance to learn and evolve.
So, I choose to keep a beginner in my bio. Not because I’m new, but because I’m always becoming. New ideas, new skills, new paths. I am an artist, yes, but one who is ever curious, ever evolving.
To anyone who hesitates to start something because they feel like a “beginner,” remember this: being new is a gift. Lean into it, there is magic in the becoming.
